Welcome to the Shoalhaven's Unwanted Tip website.
**New and Returning visitors see the 'News' page for update information.**
On 26 Aug 09, some residents in the Shoalhaven on the South Coast of NSW were informed by their local Council of a development application to use an existing shale quarry at Tomerong as a waste facility. The waste deposited would include construction and demolition waste (asbestos?), lead waste, and toxic chemical residues amongst other types of waste. The creeks on the property drain into Jervis Bay and St Georges Basin, a major tourist mecca on the south coast that includes marine and land based national parks.
The aim of this site is to bring your attention to this development, keep you informed of its progress, and detail how you can assist in protecting the community, the environment and ensure that this hazardous and offensive development is rejected. Unfortunately, despite the development application being prepared for over 3 years, the public has only received less than a month to submit a response!
The Deadline for public submissions to Shoalhaven City Council (SCC) was the 16/10/09. At the 17/11/09 the tally for public submissions was 720, a record for the Shoalhaven.
