If you need help forming your objections some points are listed below that should assist you, don’t forget to include that you are requesting an extension to the submission closing date.

  • This is an industrial activity in a rural zone that will generate ground, water, air and noise pollution and generate an increased fire risk for the area.

  • The site drains into creeks that run to St George’s Basin and Jervis Bay and will lead to damage to these marine environments.

  • The majority of the waste will not be local with waste coming from Bega in the south, all of the Illawarra, Wingecarribee and possibly Sydney.

  • The size of the tip development is too large when compared to the size of the Quarry.

  • The material deposited will include residual building waste (asbestos?) that cannot be recycled including lead based paint, treated timber, containers previously containing dangerous goods, fibreglass, plastics, building cavity dust, and gross pollutants collected from stormwater treatment devices.

  • There will be 11,000 trucks or over 20,000 truck movements entering and leaving the highway at the Island Point Rd Bypass intersection, travelling along the bypass and into Gumden Lane. The trucks will be 10 and 20 tonne with one passing every 12 minutes. There is no safe egress for pedestrians or bike riders along this route.

  • The five jobs the venture may provide will be offset by a reduction in tourism when the area becomes the site of a mega-tip.

  • The mega-tip will diminish the quality of life, damage local roads and decrease the value of land and property in the Bay and Basin area.

  • The application includes operation of the facility on week-ends.

  • The Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) appears incomplete.

  • This is a private development with little or no visual public or government support.

  • Approval for this application has been removed from the local Council and passed to a Joint Regional Planning Panel.

If you still require more information then the Council website (accessed as described above by following the DA Tracking links) gives access to documents such as the EIS and also gives visual on-line access to other resident’s submissions. However all of these documents may be removed once the submission period closes. This is another reason for extending the time permitted for submissions.
